I recently
booked a flight online. Like every one else I was conscious of the pollution
produced by jumbo jets. At the bottom of the booking form, it said "carbon
offset this flight for an extra £75". Of course I didn't take it. Wonder how
many people do? Probably not many. But this got me thinking, I wanted to offset
the flight at no extra cost.
By far my biggest contributor to personal CO2 emissions was my
car.
If I didn't drive one day a week, I'd be able to offset the
flight.
Getting to work was a chore, Train/Tube/Bus, twice a day. It took
over an hour and costs £8 a day. Driving was just being lazy. But I got to
thinking...if lots of people did this together, it could really make a
difference and massively reduce carbon emissions. So I made my first bumper
sticker and stuck it on the car. People started to ask about it and UrbanMileage
was born.
